Stats and characteristics:

Slightly weaker than Chalkaspides, slightly stonger than Phalangitai Deuteroi. Something in between these units as the "original" Macedonian phalangites are supposed to retain some superiority over these generic guys.

Deprive them of greaves, maybe give them boots. One variation with standard linothorax and one variation with spolas for variety. Use the phrygian helmet depicted on the picture used for icon and maybe some attic helmet for second variant. Painted shields to distinguish them from the Chalkaspides' bronze shield, avoid too "Macedonian" patterns such as the vergina sun as this guys will be shared by many non-Macedonian factions, maybe give them painted king's head (1, 2).

Historically, the phalanx formation was a common feature in hoplite warfare, however, it was Philip II who introduced a new revolutionary type of phalanx. His sarrisa armed phalangites were the main reason why Macedon became a superpower and dominated its enemies. This new type of warfare was so successful that after the partition of Alexander the Great's empire many Greek and other armies adopted the sarissa and the phalangite type of infantry.
