Raised from the Markomannoz (the "border-men") these warriors could possibly be considered one of the best units of pike infantry if not the best themselves. While they bear little in the way of personal armour, they are useful for fending off both enemy cavalry and infantry alike as they don't have any offensive penalties versus swordsmen , unlike most other pike units, like the Greek phalangitai.
For this reason, this unit is one of the best units of the Suebi, and can be used on its own to easily steamroll the melee units of many other factions — Greek, Celtic, even Roman too if handled right. The only enemy then to be concerned about would be light cavalry archers or chariots, such as the Gallic Issedones or the horse archers of the Iranic factions, most notably the Sarmatians. Even simple Roman Leves can be used to rout them if they attack from the flanks, or if needed, Celtiberian Scutanann or Greek Thureophoroi can be used to attack them head-on. If you are playing as the Arab, Celtic, or Iranic factions then it's even easier to defeat them, as these factions specialise in ranged cavalry — camels can be used to attack them from the rear, since they have a defensive bonus versus melee horse, thus making them ideal for hit-and-run attacks.
